Jennette Gym and Garage
Click The Moon
The bus and limo business, one of the first of its kind in Hudson County, proved amazingly
profitable and enabled Jeannette to return to boxing in a different capacity - without rejection,
and without defeat: trainer and referee.
Jeannette's greatest accomplishments, many agreed, came after he left the ring. As he
operated a lucrative limousine and bus business on Summit Avenue now (Jeannette Street) in
Union City, Jeannette ran an upstairs garage gym where he trained local and visiting
pugilists, including future Hall of Famers Georges Carpentier and James J. Braddock, for
whom North Hudson's county park is named.
He was a man who battled opponents in and out of the ring, and who went on, despite
discriminatory odds, to become a successful businessman and inspiring mentor to rising
champions.
